The key is to make sure they are very, very well lubed. Since you didn’t do the install yourself, and maybe China gonna China, I would definitely lube them up:
Order a couple tubes of Nitro mousse lube and a Stans sealent syringe. IE, what MTB’er use to put sealant inside of tubeless tires
Is there a valve stem on the bike? If yes, remove the valve core and use the syringe to inject lube into the tire without the need to take the tire off.
Also, does the bike have rim locks? You’ll definitely want those, if no
I wouldn’t be upset to not have that mousse juice everywhere! I’ve ruined some shorts in the past doing a mousse install and underestimating it, even with a Rabaconda.
Whelp, I have this big bucket o’ lube and a too cheap to buy additional tubes of lube specific to mousse. This lube is thinner and more viscous than the Murphy’s tire lube. Short answer, Murphy’s doesn’t work in the Stans syringe, as it’s too thick. So I just take the wheel off, setup the Rabaconda, separate one side of the tire and lube that up. It spreads out automagically when you ride.
Mousse juice: yeah, I have a specific set of Dickey’s overalls that I generally use when wrenching and certainly when changing tires / mousse.
The most surefire way is to dismount them and go all the way around the tire, but maybe the other way works?
This was my 501 tire on the first ride - oozing. And now nearly six months and 1,000 dirt miles later it still seeps like this when I ride in chunky terrain. That’s how much lube you want in there.
jokes aside, does it attract dirt, stick excessively/hard to clean? I’m planning on going down this path in the next couple weeks. So this is helpful for expectations.
Ok, follow up. I did Mousse Balls, rim locks, and swearing. Rear sucked, but I learned and front took minutes to mount. Its not that bad if you have Rabaconda or similar, along with the 15in tire levers, several of them.
Apologies to the ladies, but I had to share this photo. Joke especially for @Rich_Strauss
