With limited opportunity to do the riding I enjoy living in Boulder County I spend a lot of time nerding out on tools and nav so when I do get to my preferred riding I can focus on enjoying the ride.
Before I get into my tool roll I want to highlight my new favorite tool, the Stache by [Roost Concepts](https://www.roost-concepts.com/). Roost Concepts is based in Louisville and machines much of this tool in the founders garage! I’ve been putting this in the front pocket of my vest or my bar/tank bag for quick repairs. You can pick which bits you keep in it and it has an open end 10+13mm open end which are great for chain tension adjustments. They are working on more addon’s for this tool and always love getting feedback so send them a message.

In my tool roll, which lives in my backpack unless I’m doing a multi day ride and have panniers. I have the Wolfman tool roll which I really like since its indestructible, small, keeps everything tidy and not rubbing on each, and provides a great work surface to keep your parts clean while working on the trail.
Knipex pliers cover many duties including being my axle wrench. If you don’t have one I promise you need one, I like the 7" version since its still compact but can handle any motorcycle axle nut.
For sockets I use the motion pro 1/4" drive T handle and carry a 8, 10, 13 on there since that fits my Beta. I have a 6mm & sparkplug socket in my roll. I’m considering ditching the sockets off my T handle as they are redundant with what the Stache already has and I tend to carry both. The same goes for my 1/4" bits which are mostly covered by the Stache, this photo is from when I [rode solo on singletrack across Idaho earlier this Summer](https://grit1enduro.blogspot.com/) so I’d rather have 2 of something than have lost/broken a tool.
As far as wrenches I really like these Asahi branded mini wrenches but the Motion Pro’s are great too if you can afford them. I have a full length 8mm ratcheting combo wrench since there’s nothing worse than spending 5 minutes trying to get off your shift lever pinch bolt. Again I might ditch the 10 & 13mm combo wrenches as they are covered by the Stache. I usually don’t carry the 17mm combo but brought it on this Idaho trip.
For longer rides I carry a chain breaker. The super trick motion pro one intended for travel is sweet but this slightly heavier one is good too. I had been carrying the spoke wrench (red/silver bit peeking out of the sleeve) but have since removed it since the Knipex can cover enroute spoke wrench needs.
I recently added the Gerber 600 multi pliers which I’d been drooling over since Summer camp over 20 years ago. The slide out plier design holds up with my strong hands which have broken plenty of other brands. These ones have a file which is always a good thing to carry, scissors which are sharp and claim to be Fiskars branded, & and replaceable remgrit saw which we used to saw a socket in half to create a space this Summer. This version is bladeless so I also recently added a CRKT knife which has all the features I had been looking for: half serrated w/ a tanto blade and quick fold out knob for one handed operations. I’m also a fan of the double lock.
I run mousses in my Beta so I don’t carry any flat repair tools. When I’m riding the DRZ I have a bicycle hand pump which doubles as a CO2 inflator and 2x of the short/round cheap tusk steel levers which live in a fender bag on it.
For longer/multiday rides where I have panniers I carry a small pouch with everything here. Tugger 25’ tow strap, assorted o-rings, additional zip ties, 10’ of safety wire, electrical connectors & 5’ of 12v wire, jump pack, many master links+a few spare chain links, quick steel (which I always carry on short rides too), plastic tank repair, spare fuel filter, tons of assorted nuts+bolts, spare countershaft seal, spare radiator cap, spark plug, hose clamps, motion pro radiator hose tape, spare fuel pump, spare regulator rectifier, & a compact multimeter.

I have a T7 and KTM 300 and use one tool kit that will cover both bikes. I have 3 “levels” of kits that I can bring with me for ascending levels of spice.
Level 1 kit- The one I always have.
Level 2- Tire / Tube Repair Kit
\*Adhesive cement and tube patches not shown because I recently used it.
Level 3- Extra Tubes and recovery gear

Thanks John. Happy to explain any of the pieces in there. Some pieces of kit aren’t exactly obvious or have multiple uses. Thought about doing a full write up, but others have posted great tool systems as well and I’m still learning from the hive mind.
