New member discount: Wilderness First Aid training with CMC

We now have discounted rates for Wilderness First Aid training with Colorado Mountain Club. Head over to our Partners & Sponsors page to see all BCADV perks.

Option 1: Sign up for a CMC public WFA course. The usual nonmember price is $330. BCADV members pay $290/person.

Option 2: If we want to organize a BCADV-only class of 15+ people, CMC will charge $280 a person. We may try to organize a private BCADV class over winter as part of our Shop Class series.

Why bother with Wilderness First Aid training?

Adventure motorcycling involves higher chances of:

  • Traumatic injuries (fractures, head trauma, lacerations)

  • Burns (from exhaust pipes or fires)

  • Dehydration and heat illness

  • Hypothermia in high-altitude or wet conditions

  • …and a whole bunch of other stuff

Wilderness training helps you treat these effectively in the field. It’s safer for you, and safer for everyone else. Go get trained up!

Is there a deadline yet? Big kitchen remodel going on over here so budget is tight for a couple of months.

Definitely interested in a winter course. Might help with the winter wanna-ride jitters :joy:

Hey Saul - For what it’s worth, CMC have been the first to work with us on providing a discount to members, and they know what we are, and they’ve been responsive. I have spent a lot of time on this, and have been in touch with a number of providers on this front, and no others have been willing to offer any incentives. Additionally, backcountry medical groups are going to have environmental leanings, because they are typically training people doing non-motorized sports in the backcountry. My NOLS WFR training could definitely be described as taught by environmentalists, and they provided world class training; I’d go back in a heartbeat (and really, I want to).

If you have other suggestions with warm intros to folks who can help, we’re all ears. I am unaware of any OHV activists who are also backcountry medicine trainers…

Refreshing this thread. I plan to put the two-day CMC WFA course on my calendar for January or February. The Sat/Sun dates work for me.

OK, my calendar is getting full, so I’m signing up for Feb 7-8. Plenty (9) spots left open, registration closes Feb. 1. Anyone else ready to rep moto in a hiking club class? I’ll be attending drunk while smoking cigarettes.

Yep, I’m signed up for next weekend in Ft Collins. As of right now (Tuesday 9:40 pm), there’s one slot open.
