Planning an early-March Breck long weekend. Anyone experienced with this mountain? Pros and cons of lodging at the base versus in town? Is the gondola line in town egregious in the morning?
On mountain: Easier to dash in and out mid-day. Garage parking in many cases. Less noise, partiers and drunks.
In Town: More option for restaurants, bars and single mingles nearby.
As someone who lived in Summit for over a decade, I wouldn’t choose Breck. My top four would be Copper, Beaver Creek, Snowmass and Steamboat. Copper will have more reliable snow conditions. BC is simply amazing if you like steep bumps, great food and want to see a show at the Villar. Snowmass is gigantic and has great access to hot springs. Steamboat is very hit and miss with conditions. But when it hits, it’s legendary.
Great info, thanks. Confirms my gut about lodging location. This is a big group, location chosen by committee. Love Snowmass and Copper.
I haven’t been over the pass yet this season. Who has first-hand, non-resort-filtered knowledge of on-mountain conditions in Summit?
Greetings from our hotel in Breck. We skied Keystone yesterday, Breck today.
Conditions at Keystone were spring skiing. Heavy wet snow, comfortable temps, etc. Not as bad as I expected, not great, and not weird as long as you don’t look at the calendar and see it’s Feb 7 vs April 7…
Johnny on the spot! Thanks, man. Have fun.
