Notes:
- Trailer to Moab on Wed, 10/8. Stage from Moab
- Dual sport bikes only (ie, thumpers <600cc)
- CC camping in hotels, etc
- Radios, InReach, emergency bivy, etc. Simple and light.
Curious?

Curious?
Possibly. I was eyeballing Moab. I can’t access your route, no permission error.
Interested - not sure on work and plans just yet, but looks fun and would love to go
I would love to do this, but our 15th anniversary (10 of being hitched) is the October 10th. If you want to text Starla and see if she’s cool with me hanging out with you guys instead, let me know. I took our honeymoon trip with @BrotherPicnic instead of her, so you never know… ![]()
Looks like a great route! Won’t make this one, though I really want to do Lockhart on the T7.
I’ll be getting married in Moab on Oct 9, and while I don’t have any experience being married, I gather I’m supposed to be at the wedding.
If you’re driving past the Red Earth Venue at the intersection of 313 and 191, rev bombs, wheelies, and horns are gladly accepted.
I’m in but the start date is potentially a problem for me as our fall sales meeting is the 6-8 and I may have to do client visits the rest of the week. Will make it if at all possible. XR400R - plated
Ok. I’ll figure out the saving issue
I picked this daye because earlier would be better with regards to the CO / Alpine Loop stuff as any snow would shut us down.
And the Monday is Columbus Day which may be a holiday for some.
But I’d be going kinda straight from a 2wk Bali trip to this ride, which isn’t ideal. I’m flexible on the dates I should say
Can’t make those dates, unfortunately. Looks like a great route!
Meh, I’ve been married 3x. While attendance is recommended, it’s not mandatory.
Could you make it if it were the following weekend? 10/16-21
October is pretty busy for me. Natasha’s gone the 7th - 16th in CA, so I’ll have dog and house plant duty. Then, I leave for South Dakota on the 17th and back on the 21st.
Boo
This will go over like a fart at the breakfast table.
I might be able to make that. When do you need a no shit commitment?
I’d be on my WR250R geared pretty short. I’ve been looking at doing that route for some time now. I’m glad others are interested as well.
@MattMcG617 @Arrivo @ChrisMunro and copying @anichols so we can try to get him out again. Maybe @mulebarn can ride if we roll the date a week later.
I’m flexible on the date (can roll it later one weekend), weather may not be flexible but, we can figure that out.
Let me know your thoughts. Again, small bikes, zero gear (pants, shirt, sandals, toothbrush, CC)
It’s likely I’ll be in Moab on the 16th anyway, so maybe @BrotherPicnic and I can get on board for a couple days if you start the 17th. (We’ll be there w/wifeys riding MTBs and motos.) He’d be on his 690.
Looking at the route, the hardest bit is Lockhart Basin on the last day. The easier way is the direction we’re doing it (south to north). I did maybe half of it as north south. The north entrance / our exit is legit going up but we’ll be going down.
The bigger issue is that the only lodging I see before D5/Lockhart is in Blanding, about midway (?) on the D4 route. So the last day will be a BIG day. In my experience, you guys will be in the zone, riding skill-wise, by day 3 and should have no problems with the Day 5 route by then.
I need to research what non-camping lodging looks like on this route and what D4-5 looks like.
Regardless, this is an epic ride. Over 800-900mi in 5 days on DS bikes. Fingers crossed that the San Juans don’t get any snow but if they do I’m sure we could roll our own version, cutting that part out.
