It’s been awhile since I’ve been on here or to a club meet/ride, just kinda busy.
Just throwing this out there for chat or assistance. I’m a 40 year textile/bag gear nerd. Spent 30 years in LE/SWAT/Narc making custom stuff for myself and my guys long before all the tactic-cool companies came about.
I’m now retired up outside Nederland and my wife and I own two textile gear companies that custom design gear for the off-road/overland/sportscar/OEM world. We manufacture right here in Boulder. The second company only does custom work for governmental/military 3-letter agencies and that’s based out of Montana.
Anyway, I see there is a lot of chat about gear, gear modding, gear design and sewing machines…(my second love behind H&K products). So, we have a design/prototyping/pattern/cut&sew shop up here in Ned where I do my product development and I’ll offer any help to those in the club that may need gear repaired or modded or created at no cost, you just need to bring it up here. I may even teach you how to run an industrial machine without injuring yourself!

Hey thanks for the post! I’m active duty army infantry, and sew a lot of my own stuff for both work and play with my singer heavy duty. I’m actually in the middle of doing some modifications for a new ADV chest rig right now.
For some projects, I definitely wish I had something a bit more substantial. Been eyeing FB marketplace for a Juki for years but never pulled the trigger on one because I’m not sure how much I’d actually use it.
Would love to link up sometime and nerd out. I don’t know many other people who get as stoked about this stuff as I do.

We run exclusively Juki’s. I have Juki 1541 HD and REX 19 in the Design Studio for my custom/prototyping work.
I started on a $25 Brother machine I bought in a garage sale to sew patches on my first tactical uniforms. I still have that machine!
I’m in the design studio pretty much everyday so shoot me a text when you find yourself up around Nederland.

You wouldn’t happen to work on riding gear, do repairs like zipper replacements or similar? Paid way too much to have a shop replace a zipper on some Klim pants and they used too small of one than the original one and not happy with its functionality.

Sorry to hear about that.
I really don’t have the garment machines to do any type of garment or zipper placket work. My industrials tend to abuse the fabric too much.
The other issue is the cost of say a 36 inch, #10 separating zipper coil/pull, they can get pricey and probably why they put a smaller one in.

Totally get it, figured it was worth asking. The company did good work with their repair, problem was they didn’t have the same zipper on hand and used a smaller version as I needed a quick turnaround for a trip I had planned. I may bite the bullet and bring it back and have them redo it with the correct/matching size/type.

Sounds like a good plan. My only advice is make sure they spec a high quality coil/pull like a YKK. It may cost a bit more but will last longer in that environment.
