The 2026 Dakar Thread

Digging checking out the race this year, have started to follow some teams, riders, etc.

I’m really interested in learning more about the technical, behind the scenes details of the race: what the riders wear, carry on the bike, bike setup, maintenance they / the crews do every evening, etc.

Use thread to discuss the race, share any cool videos you find, etc.

Here’s one on the Solo Rider category: just the rider, with no support allowed

SWEEEEET!

I think I saw on Facebook that the last two stages were won on a Kove 450. Which makes me feel all warm inside.

Yes, stages 4 and 5 won on a Kove, by a French rider in the Rally 2 class, and he was third in stage 6.

Johnny Campbell’s son Preston is leading Rally 2 overall on a Honda and is in the top 10 overall for the bikes. I’d expect him to do well, but this is still pretty impressive for a Dakar rookie. Hope can maintain it till the end.

Ricky Brabec is leading the general classification after stage 10! 56 seconds in front of Benavides. Looks like Sanders had some problems today and lost a bunch of time. Dropped to 4th, 17:37 back. 3 more stages to go. WOW.

Sanders had a bad crash in the dunes. Broken clavicle. Brabek helped him up. Just saw a quick clip on IG

And look at this one - just a bit too sendy. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTfkR1JiAOm/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Just a bit…

Brutal launch. That sucks, to crash out this close to the end, he was on a roll.

Looking like Brabec played the strategy perfectly in stage 11 and is now leading into the short last-stage 13 tomorrow. With any luck he should have another overall win.

Gonna have to establish some spoiler rules for Giro, Tour, and Vuelta
