Today @Danrutty and I had an awesome day out with absolute hero dirt above town. We rode Gold Hill, Switzerland, Caribou, up to the top, back down, and picked and chose some dirt and pavement back to Gold Hill. Somewhat miraculously, despite it being Labor Day weekend, we only saw three or maybe four vehicles on Switzerland. Lots of fun water to play in, and zero dust. It was one of those magical days in Boulder County, and we still have no idea where everyone was. Everything was empty up high.
No pics but Kandi and I got out on the acoustic bikes. Easy spin to Sandstone Ranch, continued north on the new trail then west and south through Longmont.
Finished the ride with a cherry danish and almond croissant at Babbettes in our neighborhood to ensure we didn’t put up a calorie deficit…certainly wouldn’t want that.
Planning a 3 day ride with her in the Steamboat area next weekend. Fingers crossed for some fall colors.
Sounds awful. ![]()
I’ll be in Steamboat this weekend too, passing through on the route from Baggs to Grand Lake on Saturday.
Tenderfoot and Green Gate Friday and Saturday. We also found hero dirt. Then we found greasy mud. Was still a good time though.
That looks like heaven. All street?
Just had the KLR out in Nederland for its maiden voyage after a little whoopsie in the garage. Didn’t miss a beat, and I got to drag a sport bike out of a guard rail coming back down Coal Creek so that was fun!
Roughly 85% paved, 15% dirt.
If you go KLR speed and want a buddy (and add in some more dirt potentially) Im absolutely in for this. Its a big ride but would be a fun day out
Just couple local Boulder ones post COBDR. Fun to take out the smaller bike and did a few upgrades on it. 68J, Caribou area, Switz both sides (almost done in by 2 college gals from TX in a Jeep that were hauling and oblivious coming down Switz - you know what to expect on that trail).
It’s a shame Texans constantly reinforce their stereotypes that lead to Colorado’s hatred of Texans. ![]()
I had a couple similar experiences this weekend, both from Texas. The 1 star state. Luckily I was in a Jeep.
Rode the big bike and stayed 2 nights at a buddy’s cabin near Bonanza. Covered 750 miles altogether. Explored all kinds of trails between Saguache and Marshall Pass including the Otto Mears Toll Road.
Also explored around Lake City and took the Lost Trail down to the Rio Grande reservoir. Tried to take as much dirt as possible back to Denver so back on the Otto Mears Toll Road and then the Ute Trail/39 Mile Road/Dry Gulch from Salida to 11 Mile Reservoir and then some cutting through Rampart.
I’m sore.
Nice ride! Go tracks?
Here’s some tracks I made for this adventure. I’m not sure if my ancient Zumo 660 (don’t laugh) can export my actual ridden tracks.
