I have a 2023 and really like it. I came to the 890 after riding a 1200 GS for several years. I wasn’t surprised at how much more capable and manageable the 890 was in dirt. That’s why I bought it. What surprised me was how good it is on the road. The 1200 is probably slightly more comfortable on the pavement, but not much. That changes a bit if you change gearing, which I did, dropping a tooth on the front sprocket. Many do that, as first and second gear are a tad too tall for tractoring up hills.

Did a shake down today. I can say I’m super impressed at how the electrical nannie’s are not hardly invasive at all when compared to the ones on my 701. The 890 is such a smooth bike but could use a bit more rear suspension travel 
Bottomed it out a few times as I got comfortable with it.
Based on my ride today, it’s not kicking the 701 out anytime soon though.

Agreed on the electronics. Assuming you have rally mode, it’s great to be able to dial in the traction control and throttle response to exactly what you want. I can’t compare it to a 701. Yet. I’m pretty interested in seeing the Adventure version of the 690 that is supposedly coming out soon.
I do have Rally mode. Fay Myers is getting a 690 Adventure when they start shipping. They just got the email while I was buying the 890.

Put in a commitment to buy the 690 Rally today, with the dealer I bought my 890 from. He knows he’s getting at least one, but he’s using my commitment to try to argue for a larger allocation. He said it will probably ship in November.

That’s going to be an interesting bike for sure. The seat is going to be the huge thing. My 701 is just not comfortable at all, even with a Seat Concepts seat on it. Great for standing, kills my tailbone after about a while of sitting.
Yeah, it looks like this one has a wider part at the rear, like the Seat Concepts XL, but it also looks like it’s much thinner than the Seat Concepts.
