Looking to ride an 890/901

So my 1090 has been giving me trouble. Nothing that’s a big deal and I expect to have it sorted soon but for the first time in 5 years of ownership my bike doesn’t run at the beginning of peak riding season and now I’ve got a wandering eye.

I’ve dismissed the 790/890/901 due to the top end problems but it seems KTM’s goodwill program has made that less of an issue and these bikes seem like a good fit for the riding I do.

I’d like a chance to sample a couple of these bikes to help determine if I should be looking to swap. I’m mostly interested in current-generation (‘23 and later?) bikes.

Anybody want to go for a ride and let me try theirs out? Until the 1090 is sorted I’ve got my trusty KTM 530 XC-W to offer as a ride swap. It’s a fun, well sorted dirt monster.

I’ve been riding close to 40 years. I’ll pay for any damage I cause. I’ll also buy you a coffee/beer.

Having ridden both fairly extensively, I can say they are very different bikes, even though they share a lot of DNA. Holler if you want to talk about the differences at some point.

@Kurdz2408 will let you ride his 890 I’m sure

Also if you’re considering brand new, KTM is now doing a 4 year warranty for street legal bikes. And Strictly Powersports in Pueblo is doing “engine for life” on all street legal bikes at no extra charge. Absolutely insane.

790/890 ridden by more talented, athletic, better looking riders. And chicks dig it.

901 ridden by…others. See @Jimmy_Changa and @BillMcGee for reference

WHOA. That’s good to know

I’ve got some idea of the differences between the 890 and 901. I’m much more likely to go 890 but wouldn’t mind trying both.

Much more likely to buy used than new but I always say that and have ended up with a handful of new bikes over the years so we’ll see.

@MelanieK I appreciate you offering up @Kurdz2408 bike for him, as I’m sure he does.

It will take a lot to get me off of my 1090. I’m frustrated by it right now but that will likely go away once it’s throwing roost again. It’s heavy and loud but it’s also comfortable, capable and goes like stink.

That sounds great. I’ve had a few instances over the years of manufacturers not honoring warranties and/or recalls that has left me skeptical but that’s still intriguing.

Don’t forget about @TheOtherRich. :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s where I saw the Honda 125 Dax I sent you… engine for life!

I’m still skeptical too. When I bought the 690 they mentioned it and it just doesn’t even make sense to me because if the engine goes, doesn’t that mean the “life” is over? But they said as long as I own it, the engine is covered.

Lol. Yeah you can definitely ride mine. I love the bike and can’t recommend it enough. But I’ve never ridden a 1090 or bigger bike. Mine has a lot of modifications done to it. Both performance and ergos for my size so it won’t exactly feel stock. We are pretty busy next couple weeks but you can always just borrow it for a couple days if we can’t line up our schedules for a ride together.

Fay Myers has a 2027 890R Rally in stock. It’s only money…

I think you have to be a minimum of 6 foot 4 to even get one foot on the ground with that bike

I’ve got a 901 Expedition, we can definitely do a ride and some change ups.

I’ve done the Vanasche pegs, shifter, brake and brake/clutch levers.

it’s a great machine, I’m still learning the best way to handle it.

Add inches to your inseam! Just need to be off the bike for a year or two. Then you’re 890 Rally ready!

Ouchie.

I’ve broken my legs before and I didn’t get any taller at all!

My left leg looks similar, and nope, no taller either. I’m also convinced that they are astronomically marking up hardware from Ace when I see x-rays like this!

Yeah I bought that same kit on aisle 17.
