Hey all, right before Moab, I put a set of Tusk 2 Track tires on my T7 and have been trying to eliminate a mild to sometimes moderate front tire wobble that occurs at around 80 MPH.
I’ve done a few things that made the wobble less severe but it’s stubbornly persisting:
-Balanced, rebalanced, and re-rebalanced the front tire using spoke weights and a tusk balancing stand
-Set rear sag (front is not adjustable, but the bike is sprung for my weight)
-Increased tire air pressure to 32 PSI
-slightly decreased rear and front rebound damping- This helped a fair bit
Is there any other recommendations that people have out there? Am I asking too much of these tires in the first place? I’m starting to think that this might be a problem I have to deal with until I replace the front tire with something else.
So, I had the same thing on mine… the only fix… was miles. The squared lugs needed to be worn in a bit, and it is a long-lasting tire. After maybe 500 miles, it was fine. Same tire on my Aprilia Tuareg 660.
That’s good to hear. Not sure I would put the same tire back on the front with that type of break in process, but I’m glad it eventually went away for you.
I haven’t had that problem with the tire but I can say I’ve found the 2 Tracks to perform better at lower pressures. I’m running 26 front 28 rear on mine.
Dont sweat too much. I found a lot of reports of the front 2 track being that way when I did mine. Hard tire, but scrub in is pretty normal and it behaves nicely later.
I dropped my forks in the triple tree up to the fork cap. It slightly changes the rake angle and results in a much more stable front end. Just put 1700 miles on a 2track front last weekend, stable up to the top of 6th gear. I’ve had the same experience with knobby and even non-DOT tires, the front end is totally stable after dropping the forks.
The only other odd T7 specific thing is that the big silver nut on top of the steering stem is sometimes not torque sufficiently from the factory, and that can cause a range of front end issues that are difficult to diagnose but easy to fix.
I think I would have to heat mold my acerbis tank if i installed that. Not a deal breaker but not necessary a project I want to tackle right now. I’m glad you’ve found success with it. Definitely a good price.
