Hi. Iām Clay. Iāve been into adventure motorcycling for about 10 years, though itās only been the last four or five years that Iāve had the time to really start learning it and taking longer trips, doing BDRs, etc. Iād hoped to participate in this group last year, but real life got in the way.
I have a couple of KTM 890 Adventures. At the end of last season, I bought a KTM 500 EXC-F, but I only got a couple of short rides in, thanks to a rotator cuff surgery (got thrown off the bike on the New Mexico BDR - I donāt bounce as well at 59 as I did at 49). Iām looking forward to using it on some gnarlier trails than Iām comfortable doing on my 890s and maybe on some solo BDR trips.
Iām looking forward to participating more this upcoming riding season and meeting all of you.

Stoked to have found this group. Iām new to adventure bike riding, but Iāve spent a lot of time on two wheels off-road. To be honest, first time actually having a motorcycle endorsement!
Originally from Oregon, but Denver has bee home base for sometime. However, Iāve spent most of my Colorado summers traveling for work and never really had time to pick up something new, after a recent change, Iām excited to start exploring riding spots right here in my backyard.
A buddy convinced be picked up a CFMOTO IBEX 450 at the start of the year, however Iām currently recovering from a pretty big crash, so I havenāt been able to fully put it to use yet. Counting the days, excited to getting back out there, join some group rides, meet some of you, and keep on learning the ropes!

Iāve owned my Kawasaki KLX 230 for about 3 months and Iām still pretty new to riding, especially off-road. Based in Superior, I got into ADV riding as a way to get out moreālinking up trails, camping, and fishing trips.
Still learning as I go, but excited to get out on group rides and see some new terrain with people who know the area better.

Hey everyoneāglad to be here. Iāve been riding motorcycles and mountain bikes since the late '80s, with a mix of dirt, sport, and ADV bikes over the years.
Currently riding a Tiger 900 GT Pro and a 2006 KTM 450 EXC. Iām based in Superior and try to get out as much as possibleāespecially for moto road trips. I usually aim for a 2-week tour each year.
Iāve been wanting to get into some BDR routes and do overnight camping rides, especially up in the hills above Boulder. Always open to connecting with others who are into ADV riding, exploring backroads, and getting off the pavement a bit.

Hey BCADV Fam, Iāve been part of the community since mid-2025 and have attended several gatherings and rides but have not formally, or informally, introduced myself here. Iām a dad, husband, architect, Old Town Erie resident, and motorcycle fanatic in my mid-fifties. Motorcycling has played a hugely influential role in my life, providing lessons in goal setting and perseverance, offering career developing relationship opportunities, being the source of connection to the love of my life, and delivering immense joy and character-building challenges. Apologies in advance if this reads more like a memoir than an introā¦
I was bit by the moto bug around age 11 when I got my first ride on a pull start rigid minibike that belonged to my cousinās friend in Brooklyn. I got my own dirt bike, an '83 KX125, at age 12. On a camping trip in upstate NY I took my first real ride on the KX. As Rich pointed out in his ADV 101 presentation, a motorcycle can get you to a faraway place quickly that takes a very long time to walk back from! On that ride I learned a motorcycle that is out of gas will not start, no matter how much you kick it, and a quarter tank of premix consumed while riding is the equivalent of a three plus hour walk while pushing. At age 14 I did my first motocross race, the Kawasaki ROC in Englishtown NJ. Having never ridden on a track before the gate dropped, I made it about half a lap before crashing out and getting run over! Parental reset, BMX racing looks saferā¦ It wasnāt, but for several years I got to race and travel the country doing ABA and NBL nationals.
BMX racing led to BMX freestyle, flatland, ramps, and major injuries. Reset two, mountain bike racing looks safer. It was, mostly. I then got my first street bike at age 18, a Honda Interceptor 750. It was stolen, 80s NYC, everything got stolen! It was replaced with a lowly CB400T that I chopped and turned into a budget cafĆ© racer. The summer between the VF and CB-T I took my Ibis Avion with drop bars and paniers on a 3000-mile unsupported cross-country tour with a friend from HS. A year later Iād head off to college in AZ.
In AZ I worked on and raced MTBs for Excellent Bikes, a shop in Mesa while attending ASU, architecture undergrad. For most of the 90s I didnāt have a dirtbike or ride motos off road. Sportbikes were my focus. The crashed remains of a nearly new 93 ZX-7 that I tossed off a cliff at South Mountain was traded for a CBR600 project racer. That led to club racing with CCS, new friendships, AHRMA vintage two-stroke road racing, and freelance contributor work with American Road Racing, Boulevard, Cycle World, and Sportbike magazines.
Married and pursuing a career in architecture after grad school I ended up in San Francisco with no money and little time for motorcycles. It was a no brainer to accept a job offer from a firm in Sacramento for equal pay in a place with a much lower cost of living. I knew it would be a good fit when they had a Moto Guzzi V7 in their lobby, and a vintage Whizzer and BMW R32 in the principalās office! In fact, the principal, Bruce Monighan was away on a motorcycle trip when I interviewed, taking the month off to work as team manager for the US Montessa National Trials team and Ryan Bellās minder! Bruce got me back into off road riding and I got Bruce into road racing with AHRMA and AFM. 28 years and 30+ motorcycles later weāre still friends.
My first foray into ADV was on a Cagiva Gran Canyon pimped by Brian Catterson who had a strange affinity for the brand. It was an odd but wonderful motorcycle. A brilliant bad-road bike, but not a good off-road bike. I soon realized I preferred trail and dual sport style rides more. XRs, WRs, and FEs followed and were more suitable to my interests, which included enduro, hare scramble, and GP racing. The Canyon was relegated to touring duty and eventually sold.
A divorce and longing for old times prompted the purchase of another 1983 KX125 and the desire to race it at the Unadilla Rewind Vintage Motocross Festival in 2013. I would return to Unadilla for the next 5 years with more bikes for more classes and a growing love of vintage motocross and cross-country racing. This passion would lead to running the Great Lakes and Rocky Mountain AHRMA Offroad Regions and the purchase and restoration of way too many old dirtbikes. Last year I took a step back from race day operations, but Iām still actively racing with RMVMC and CORCS, and remain a member of RMVMCās steering committee.
Today, Iām happily remarried thanks to a mutual friend and a red Honda Hawk GT 650. Also back into ADV after a lengthy hiatus. My current stable includes a KTM 990 Adventure, Aprilia Tuareg 660, Husaberg FE 570, TM Racing EN300 ES, a couple street bikes and a bunch of vintage MX and enduro bikes. Itās great to be part of the BCADV community and I look forward to meeting and riding with everyone and especially to ice cream with Gino.
