Great to get out today. Thanks to @NikkiD @noahnomad @Mark @Rich_Strauss for joining what was effectively an early season trail conditions survey. Special shout out to @mulebarn for stopping by Spruce in his street clothes to check in on the kids before we headed out.
After a quick stop at the OTHER Spruce, on Pearl St, to collect @NikkiD , we made tracks to 68J.
@Rich_Strauss and I quickly decided that putting our bikes down in the middle of the first ascent and then picking them back up sounded like fun, so we did that. Everyone else was entertained as well.
Headed to Moon Gulch, which I think is a good time. Conditions were OK, with a few small snowy patches and two small downed logs, but nothing insurmountable, until we came across a downed tree. Small bike + chain saw mission required. I’ve got the saw if anyone has a saw mount for a bike.
Turned around. At this point @Rich_Strauss realized he had an opportunity to bank an SAU (Spousal Approval Unit) by beating the missus home and bailed. @Mark also had a thing at home to get to. And then there were three.
Down Tolland to Mammoth and up. We made it to within a mile or so of the switchback, across several snow piles, before a really big pile of snow with an abandonded Tacoma stuck in it ended things.
Back to Rollinsville, where further domestic duties claimed @noahnomad . Pizza at Toss for @NikkiD and me, and then the worst transit of Switz I’ve ever experienced. Filthy with SxSs.
However, in a pleasant turn of events, we ran into @ChrisMunro at the top. We flashed BCADV gang signs at each other, and then proceeded to the Gold Hill General Store for cookies.
