🎃 BCADV Halloween Poker Run - Saturday October 25, 2025

BCADV Halloween Poker Run

Welcome to the BCADV Halloween Poker Run! This is likely/maybe our last group ride of the season before winter sets in, so we really hope to see you there. We’re sending it out with a bang this time with a Halloween-themed ride and poker run. Aside from fun on the bike, there will be costumes, gambling, and prizes.

:motorcycle: The Basic Idea

There will be an A route and a B route, and if newbies want, a C route. Riders follow a set route with 5 designated stops - details on those below. At each stop, participants draw a playing card from a standard deck of cards. No tricks here. Or are there? Rich will be the dealer for the A Route. Gino will be the dealer for the B Route.

By the final stop, each rider has drawn five cards, and ends up with a poker hand. The goal is simple: the best poker hand wins.

:money_bag: Entry & Prizes

  • Entry fee: $10 per rider. High stakes!

TBD Cash and/or prizes for:

  1. Best hand

  2. Worst hand

  3. Since this is ALSO a Halloween ride, we can vote on best costume

Ride Details

Where: the ride will start from Spruce in North Boulder.

When:

  • 9:30a: coffee, pastry, meet and greet

  • 9:55a: ride brief

  • 10:00: KSU

Route:

As this is likely our last big club ride of 2025, we want to keep it simple and social, featuring the Greatest Hits above Boulder. Rich will create A and B ride GPS tracks for the ride, but here is an overview:

  • From Spruce we will ride together up and over Lee Hill to Lefthand Canyon. Left, then left again on Lick Skillet and up to Gold Hill.

  • Turn right, parade through Gold Hill, continue to the intersection of Gold Hill Rd and Switzerland Trail. From here, the ride will split into two groups: The Killer B’s and the Awesome A’s

  • A-Ride:

    • Will go right and tackle the 3x hill climbs on this north stretch of Switzerland: 1st card draw at the top.

    • Descend to Sawhill, Gold Hill Rd, then ride Switzerland all the way through to Peak to Peak.

    • Parade through Ned to WestMag, take WestMag to Rollinsville: 2nd card draw at the old mine at the intersection of 105 and 109.

    • Rollinsville Rd to Mammoth Gulch to Elk Park: 3rd card draw at The Lunch Tree.

    • Elk Park to Apex to Moon Gulch to Rollinsville. 4th card draw at the Picnic Table at the exit of Moon Gulch.

    • Rollinsville to Magnolia to 68J: 5th card draw at the parking lot at the east exit of 68J.

    • Descend Flagstaff and meet the Killer B’s at Sanitas Brewery in Boulder.

  • B-Ride:

    • Will turn left and enter Switzerland: 1st card draw at The Stone Chimney.

    • Continue the length of Switzerland: 2nd card draw at Switz and P2P.

    • Parade through Ned to Rollinsville, right, Rollinsville Rd to Mammoth Gulch: 3rd card draw at the bottom of Mammoth Gulch.

    • Here the ride will split into B and C groups:

      • B: up Mammoth Gulch to The Lunch Tree and 4th card draw

      • C: continue up to the Tolland Tunnel for the 4th card draw

      • Both B and C make their way back to Boulder and Sanitas Brewery via Magnolia to Boulder Canyon. 5th card draw at Sanitas

Admin:

  • A good attitude! This will be a fun, social ride.

  • Begin the ride with a full tank of gas. There’s a Shell station one block from Spruce

  • Warm layers: it will likely be a chilly day up top. Be prepared.

  • Basic tools and stuff to fix your own flat with our help

  • Water, snacks, etc

  • Radio, if you have one, setup per the BCADV Radio SOP here

Let’s go!

Looks great, I’m in.

IN! On the 500. Will create and post tracks shortly

Man this looks so fun! Super bummed that I will miss it. Saturday the kid goes to Marching Band State Championships at Falcon Stadium. So I will be free to ride on Saturdays again, just as the snow flies…

Maybe I will have to do my own version on sunday. Would it look weird if I was riding in a parade in a costume and solo?

Thanks so much for putting this together though - huge value y’all are bringing to the community!

Definitely maybe

Hello, will there be any beginners on this ride? I’m looking for groups to ride with but I’m a beginner.

Welcome! There are absolutely all ranges of skills, and we welcome folks to join. What sort of ride are you on?

Hi Brittany, great to see you. I believe I referred you to the club from your post somewhere on Facebook. We will create a C route specifically for you and any others who want to join us.

@brittanyaltmann Welcome, Brittany!

Thanks! I’m going to get a few more solo rides under my belt before joining a group. Hopefully I’ll catch you all next year on a group ride.

Please note we just moved the ride time back to 10 AM to let it warm up a little bit. Tomorrow is going to be chilly.

Also, please bring cash for the poker part. I am not a digital currency exchange. I also am not a bank or a cash register. Bring your $10.

Gotta visit a sick friend in the morning (HONEST) but would like to meet up at Sanitas to socialize. What’s an approximate ETA?

Health request: Please don’t bring sick to a social function.
