Welcome to the 2nd Annual BCADV Red Feather Lakes ride! Last year was a huge turnout, and so much fun.
This year we’re doing this one a little differently. I’m posting the details, BUT, I’m calling on BCADV members to step up to lead the A and B rides. Rich is out of town, and I’m not leading the A ride. I’ll be on the back of the A ride. Plus, Rich and I really need others to step up to make this all work. Speak up if you’ll lead the ride.
Date: Saturday, May 30th
Time:
-
9:00-20 — meet and greet, coffee and pastries
-
9:20-25 — Riders’ Brief, will be given by the ride leaders
-
9:30 — KSU. This is a hard start time, not a suggestion
What: 2nd annual Red Feather Lakes Ride. This is an open ride to the public, so if you’re aiming to become a BCADV member, this is a great way to earn that stripe. Last year, we had a great day out, and I’m excited to do it again.
Where:
Spruce Confections, N. Broadway. Gas is available at the Shell a few blocks south on Broadway. Show up with a full tank, ready to ride.
Who: A & B riders. The B route on this ride quite easy, but perhaps not if you’re brand new. You can always ride pavement at meet up in Masonville, then again in Red Feather Lakes.
Route Overview:
(Tracks are being finalized, and will be posted in a few days.)
We’ll roll out together and take backroads and dirt roads via the Dirty Carter route, making our way to Masonville. In Masonville, we’ll stop at the store/portapotties, and then split into A squad and B squad.
The A-route is “A” because of Old Flowers (IF it’s open by the time we do this ride!), and then the length of the loop we’ll be riding north of Red Feathers. Old Flowers is legit these days on a big bike. If you’re not sure, you can do the B-route below, connect with us in Rustic, and join us for the big loop north of Redfeather. After Old Flowers there’s nothing particularly challenging about the riding itself, just that it will be a full day. The A-Route will stop for a trail sammich at the fire tower at Deadman.
The B-Route: is a great scenic ride: Dirty Buckhorn, Pingree Pass, Poudre Canyon, Rustic, and then up to Redfeather. After that the route swings south again via a different route back to Rustic, then Poudre, Stove Prairie, Rist, and then around Horsetooth Rez.
Admin: Bring water, tools, snacks, lunch, and start with a full tank of gas. There is gas (and ice cream) in Rustic and gas (and ice cream) Red Feather Lakes. Bring your radios, programmed, charged, and on.
