What: An easy-as-it-gets C-grade ride, and an S24O (Sub-24-hour Overnighter) intro to motocamping. This is for the noobs! We’ll start in Boulder, ride some graded dirt roads, farm roads, and back roads. The idea is that this is a practice run and shakedown for upcoming S240’s where we pick a day mid-week, leave after work and ride to somewhere close, have dinner and camp out in the hills, get up early and be back the next morning in time to start a normal day. This is how we cheat the system and get in mini-adventures.
NOTE: Don’t let a lack of gear stop you. We have SO much gear among the club that can be borrowed for this one night out. If you’re interested and don’t have a tent, sleep pad, or bag or whatever, speak up! We’ll figure it out. Related, here’s a basic generic checklist:

Where: Start at the Shell Station at 4501 N. Broadway in N. Boulder. We’ll ride for a couple hours or so, and the plan is to camp at the north end of Carter Lake at the Eagle campground. Note: they have a 2-night minimum, but I spoke with the ranger, and she said if there’s availability day-of, then we can just roll in and just book that one night. As of right now there’s a ton of availability. We will pass by the campground on the ride out, and we’ll stop to see if we can book a site/sites for the evening on our way out. That said, we could also strike out, at which point we will make decisions as a group; this is ADV, and plans often don’t work.
Who: This is a newbie C ride intro, but errbody is of course welcome. You can also come ride with us and not camp out. WDGAF.
Also, if there’s a ripper contingent, go ride your ride and meet us at camp.
When:
- 3PM and don’t be late. Rich will be there.
Route Overview:
- Boulder > Dirty Carter (stop to try to secure a couple campsites depending on how many folks we have). If campsite secured > Green Ridge Glade Reservoir, Masonville, and likely flip it depending on daylight and desire to set up camp. If camp not secured: figure out other options. I will post a GPX track in the next 2-3 days that you can download.
