Putting some feelers out to see who would be interested in doing the IDBDR between July 15-23/ 24. It’s a long one, so I’d like to do about 10-12 hours in the saddle each day, camp where ever at night, and eat like paupers. Logistically, I have a trailer I could fit maybe 3 ADV bikes in to take to the start. We’d do the BDR then rent a uhaul truck to bring the bikes back to the start (13 hour drive) and then head home. the IDBDR is decently remote, so I likely won’t attempt without a riding buddy, but If you’re interested, let me know and we could work something out.
Hey Matt - I’m interested in the IDBDR. I just did a 2000-mile, 7-day trip in UT on the T7 with 5-nights of camping. It was a good opportunity to work out some moto camping issues and boosted my confidence for future BDRs. I will discuss the schedule with Jules and get back to you soon.
Did you do the UTBDR or do a “choose your own adventure” trip? Regardless, UT is world class riding territory- especially when the weather cooperates.
I’ve done Idaho, and for me it was a one and done.
The best parts of Idaho are not on the BDR! And just be aware that southern Idaho is a brutally hot desert in summer… there’s not much to see from Boise south.

The central Idaho Loop through Stanley, Ketchum, etc. is beautiful Alpine riding. The northern part of the BDR is also beautiful all the way up to the Canadian border. It gets really good once you cross into Canada.
When you get up into the panhandle watch out for Dixie flags and KKK members…
if I were going to drive that far to ride in Idaho, I would probably do the northern part of the Idaho BDR and connect it to the northern part of the Montana BDR as a loop. That would be epic.

This is the same thing I’ve been thinking about - Montana Sec 3 up to BC then over to Idaho Sec 9 and wrap back around to Lolo.

Yeah, the weather was fantastic. We only had one day of rain. The Utah ride was outside of the BDR. There were some fantastic trails. The Best is probably the Flint Trail going through the San Rafael swell. I’ve got this route documented and look forward to doing it again someday.

I have a buddy that wants to hop in on a ride but he’s only got from July 16-23, so might need to put a pin in ID for now. Mark, if you have those dates available, we can talk about an alternate trip. Still camping over multiple days- just not as far away.
Concur with Gino’s words on the southern portion as worth missing, especially in the middle of the summer!!! That Central Idaho loop he mentions is gorgeous!!! The road from Featherville over to Ketchum is beautiful with some cool hot springs to camp at!!
On the BDR - Mtn Home/Anderson Ranch Rez and north is all beautiful. The big issue for us CO folks is it is a haul to get there and back.
Love the idea of linking northern ID and MT together. Base out of Lolo, but worth trying to do Magruder Corridor if you have time. Really cool scenery because it is soooo remote.
Wish I could go, but will be in Maine that time of year!!

Yeah, we made some plans and then I catastrophically grenaded all the bones in my foot so unfortunately I’m off the saddle for a bit.
