Service review: Motorsport Masters

TLDR: Great A+ level experience with Mike and Motorsport Masters. Highly recommend for anyone with a single cylinder bike.

Slightly longer version: you may remember that I twisted up the front end on my 501 at the bottom of 68J riding with @RC_John and @ChrisMunro in a spectacular and stupid 0mph get off. I took the bike to Motorsport Masters in Wheat Ridge and can say it was the best moto service experience I’ve ever had. In addition to diagnosing the twisted bits, I was also at the first big service interval, so I had them go ahead and tear the bike down as well. I don’t mind doing the small stuff on my bikes, but I’m at a point in life where for the major work I’d rather have someone reputable do it because A) it will take them 1/8th the time to do it right and I still might F something up, and B) I’d rather be riding motos or MTBs than wrenching.

Mike sat me down and we went through a detailed checklist on his computer of everything we were going to inspect, fix, or replace. I also wanted them to trim my handlebars 1cm on each side, which is a PITA on my bike because of the complex anti-vibe system I use. They took copious notes, and said they’d be in touch as needed.

They quickly found that my front end was a way out of alignment, but that I’d also bent a bracket on my Taco Tower. I emailed the crew at Taco Moto and Cc’d MM, and later that day a new bracket was en route. A few days later, I went to pick up the bike. We sat down with a 6-8 page report of every item they’d touched on the bike as they tore it all the way down, and Mike showed me a few things they’d found and addressed. Valves were good, every fluid on the bike flushed and new, Golan filter was clean/GTG, etc. etc. Every single bolt/spoke/clamp on the bike had been retorqued to spec and marked with a paint pen that I’d provided.

She’s ready for another year, and my 701 is down there as well now for its first major service interval, if that’s any indication of my satisfaction with their work.

Chris and I are working on some kind of club incentive/deal/partnership with them now. It’s rare to find their level of service, and it’d be cool to support a local business. They don’t work on twins, fyi.

Adding my own note too… since I tagged along. This was probably the most comprehensive shop I’ve ever experienced. The information they went through was akin to a doctor explaining a major illness or surgery. I was impressed.

Wow that’s really great. I’ve had similar, really great experiences with Peak Performance Powersports …Lakewood on Wadsworth …just north of 6th Ave. they’ve done quite a bit for me with a couple of bikes including my CRF450RL

It’s great to have another option!

I’ve been dealing with Mike at Motorsports Masters for almost 10 years, lots of bikes, a couple snow bikes and it’s always done right the first time and at a reasonable price. :100: recommend them too.
