I took a solo trip the same weekend as the BCADV S24O because I got off of work at 3 am and left late (much later than the group ride).
I went into and out of Woodland Park on mostly paved roads, but made it a fun ride. Schubarth trail kicks off of Loy Creek Road which intersects with RR just NE of Woodland Park. It’s hard dirt with some dips until you get back into the national forest. It’s still a forest service road, but not graded, so there are sections of loose gravel, sandy dirt, and washed out deep ruts (I lost a downhill battle to the ruts…also wear your gear).
The forestry service is doing a lot of cutting in the area so some of the trail is extremely loose dirt with wood chips which makes a sort of slick, loose chunky peanut butter that sticks but you get no grip. Made the uphills kinda fun since your rear tire is biting but throwing stuff everywhere behind you….also makes uphill turns interesting….again I met mister ground.
It’s super peaceful up there and you have access to one of the best overlooks of the southern metro front range.
