Is there a better day?
So sick!
The best days. New e-bike for @jcurry and new sled for you. Nice!
Wow, Melanie with the hooligan bike! Congrats!

Congrats!!!
Whoa! Quite the step up from the 390!
[ I turned this into an ongoing thread because we have a bunch of variants of New Bike Day! running. Thanks @MelanieK

@Jimmy_Changa and @309 inspired me to post… and I’m only seven and a half months late on this, but in December I found a fairly rare BMW F900GS with the Trophy build, AND it has a hard key instead of a key fob. I’ve never liked key fobs on motorcycles; they tend to be buggy with proximity, gas tank opening, and so forth. I also have an irrational fear of losing the fob on trips. So, I bought the F900 GS Trophy shame build: hard key and no TPMS from the factory.
After more than a decade of BMW losing their way (I used to ride the 650 series GS bikes back in the day, mostly commuting and some California camping, I think Motorrad have nailed this ground-up redesign mid-weight. It feels light the second you pull it off the kickstand, and everything is supremely well balanced with the chassis and weight distribution. It’s not quite as snappy or precise as a KTM 890 AR, but it’s not too far off either. What it lacks in snap, it more than makes up for in comfort, and that was my goal with this bike: longer days, back roads, dirt roads, two track, and bigger trips. And fwiw, shorter riders might appreciate this bike over an 890 or Norden. On paper, they’re similar, but for some reason this bike feels lower.
It came well spec’d from the factory for a rider my weight w/fully adjustable Showa suspension, Akrapovič pipe, etc., so I haven’t had to do much to it. I added the AXP skid plate, Hepco & Becker crash bars, Perun mini-rack w/a Gnoblin, and some Denali D3 “be seen” lights out front. Nav is a DMD unit.
Anyway, @Jimmy_Changa was asking for pics elsewhere on the forum, so I took it out today to test the new Motoz ADV tires (I’ve put a couple thousand miles on it this year so far), and snapped a few iPhone shots here in the neighborhood. So far, I’m hella digging this bike.
Now we know where all those member dues went! ![]()
Sick bike.
I had a client buy the 900GS and 1300GS just to see which one he liked. He let me ride the 900 around the parking lot, and it felt wildly different than my 800gs. I loved it. It would be so fun to ride one hard and not care about how much money I spent. It’s too pretty a bike to dump in the rocks!
The 1300 is an amazing mile muncher, but the 900 is a true middleweight ADV bike. They couldn’t be more different!
It’s raining today because yesterday was new bike day for me!
2023 500EXC-F with 900 miles on it. Super fucking stoked - I’ve been riding someone else’s FE 501 a ton in the last year and have been wanting one bad.
I need wisdom from all you 500/501 owners! So far I have: Tusk DSport front and rear, Neutech Tubliss, AXP skid plate, Tusk handguards, Seat Concepts Comfort XL, rear brake sharkfin thing. All arriving tomorrow.
I was excited to find a GET ecu already on it - them things are not cheap! Previous owner also changed sprockets to 13/50 but included the oem ones and I’m gonna switch them back.
I owned a 350 EXC-F so I’m not new to the platform. But this one I want to make a BDR type bike.
The exhaust looks stock, but I think it’s louder than stock. Could previous owner have modified the stock end cap without buying a whole new one?
The ecu switch - I can’t tell the difference between 1 and 2. Maybe I need to ride it more.
What else do you all recommend?
Congrats!
- Consult the manual to see for what weight rider the bike is sprung then consider getting the bike sprung for your weight. Suspension is the best $ spent on this bike.
- Armor for the front disk
- Swiftkicker kickstand
- Tail tidy
- Larger tank, ~4 gallons.
- Swingarm and frame protection
- SAE to USB adapter. I run mine from the battery, along the frame to behind the headlight. USB displays voltage so I can see that when I ride.
- MotoMinded or similar headlight. The stock headlight is likely shit.
As it’s your bike, it will likely be ridden very slowly and dropped a lot so I’d focus on protection. That’s what she said

I have nothing add other than that’s a beautiful Bike Bill
Congrats Bill! So sick!
The best things to buy for a motorcycle are gas and tires.
(As I say this with a smug look on my face, please ignore the stack of boxes of parts for my 890 that are sitting next to my poor broken 1090…)
Heck yeah! Happy to compare notes with the Mule Barn 501.
Hell yeah! Congrats!
What @Rich_Strauss said as far as mods.
Few other suggestions:
- the tail pipe end cap from taco moto will open the bike up quite a bit, especially with that ECU. Be advised though - it’s a goddamn nightmare to get the OEM end cap off.
- At a minimum filter skins over the air filter, after market Twin Air pro aluminum cage if you want to dial up air filter protection.
- I have the Ruby moto R5 headlight and it’s bright as hell. FYI - they’re usually at the mako koto dusty lizard events and provide discounts for attendees.
- Acerbis swing arm guard is great.
- Front fork bottoms protection
- Can recommend Factory Connection for suspension if you go that route.
- you’re tall so would recc aftermarket offset pegs and probably bar risers ( I put Heimdall on mine) but you’ll likely want to ride it some first. I’ve got a set of the anti vibe FASST company pegs I need to sell if you want to take a look/ try them out. Dont recall the model and offset off hand.
- I’ve been loving the steg pegz on mine as well. Beneficial for tall people IMO.
- At some point. You’ll probably snap the oem shifter and brake pedal… buy spares or aftermarket and keep the oem in your pack.
- Midwest mountain engineering easy clutch pull lever is great.
- Mosko Trail 16 bags are great set up to keep on the bike for local or trailer to day rides and compatible with the knoblin mount for larger bags for BDR if you go that route.
Same, Saul… same. ![]()
Woohoo Bill! Very exciting. Good to see you picked team orange. Lol. I’m loving tubliss on my 450 for going from pavement to dirt.
I’ve also got some lowered pegs I’m not using if interested. Motoes 15mm down and back
