Get ready for the roar! My Rottweiler intake is louder than my Arrow exhaust.
I have debated getting the Solera intake because I hate taking the tank off but so far I still hate parting with dollars more.

On my 2022 model you don’t need to remove the gas tank to access/service the filter, only the outer middle cover which takes removing two screws. ![]()
I currently have the tank removed in preparation of accessing the stator cover.
**Update on the progress for the “weekend” work that turned into multiple weekends.
I received the stator last week and promptly installed it. I’d note, the OEM one didn’t look burnt like the previous one I replaced but wanted to upgrade to the Rich’s Electronics one regardless. Buttoned everything up and had to wait overnight for the KTMbond to dry (more commonly known as YAMABOND). The next morning I went out and tried turning in over and no luck. When first taking everything a part I noticed some engine oil in the intake so I decided to take the air filter off and inspect the throttle body inlets while turning it over. There was back pressure coming out when turning it over
perhaps the valves?
I pulled the valve covers off and set top dead center starting with the rear cylinder and measure the valve gaps. Exhaust were middle of spec, Intake had no space (WTF)? DId the same for the front cylinder and found the same issue. Apparently its yet another known issue that some have experienced, intake valve wearing into their seats and closing their gaps. This would explain the hard cold starts the last few mornings of my TAT trip.
I went on Amazon and ordered a set of Hot Cam shims.
Long story short, installed the necessary shims, and reassembled top ends (waited until next morning to try starting while KTMbond dried). Next morning pushed the button and it fired right up!
I then proceeded to reassembled everything else on the bike so I could take a test ride. A few hours later I took it out and it ran like a champ!
I’ll agree with Saul that this intake is loud, not at cruising speed but when you get on the throttle hard it barks at you. Also seemed to spin the rear tire more when trying to wheelie.
Ready to try and squeeze in some riding before the white stuff arrives.
Lots of familiarity in that post. At about 15k, 3k before the valve check interval my bike was hard to start cold. Inspection found intakes all at or near zero clearance. There was nothing in my intake tract to indicate I’d sucked in dirt or anything. Once valves were set it has started and run great for about 9k miles. Lots of other 1x90 owners have reported that after that initial adjustment they haven’t moved or at least not much.
Rottweiler intake sounds great but when hammering on it it is LOUD!
Riding buddies have reported that when trying to wheelie I sometimes leave long black burnout marks instead. ![]()
I do multi day rides on the 1090 as often as I can. The biggest one is usually in January so coming up soon enough. I’ve tried a few luggage set ups and haven’t been happy with any of them. Seems nearly all moto luggage is too heavy, too complicated or too expensive. Most have two or three of those qualities. I saw a post from @Kurdz2408 using a Wolfman B Base and some dry bags. Then did a little looking and saw a few more people doing this with different sized bags and I was really intrigued. Seems Mr. Wolfman is taking the winter off, good for him, so I sourced a used B Base. Here it is with a couple 13L dry bags, a 7L dry bag and a big water bottle. That’s 33L of storage that’s sitting low and forward. Easy to scale up or down. Works with the tool roll and tubes/spares bags that live on the bike. On and off in seconds. Doesn’t move. I think we have a winner.
Yep. After banging around in the ADV world for decades, this is the way. Modular, mission flexible, lightweight, and able to source non-moto-specific bag options.
Hey that’s awesome! Setup looks good. Glad you like it. That’s a good looking 1090 as well.
What bags are you running on the Prerun side racks?
Odinsberg tool roll from Amazon on one side and a Nelson Rigg 5L dry bag on the other for tubes, tire irons, tow strap and first aid kit.
I’ve gotten good deals on used Wolfmann bags. Have 2 saddle bags that are around 20L each and cinch down tight and small when not loaded. They sit on the bike constantly.
Got a 40L tail bag I use for camping and hauling stuff too and from work. I can bring uniforms, body armor and my duty belt to work and not have to throw on a backpack.
What’s the B base? Strap kit that the bags attach to like the Green Chilli strap kit? I just have a hard pannier rack I strap things to currently, but I’ve thought about a strap base to get it closer to the bike.
Wolfman B Base:
I bought @Arrivo 's 790 and have been busy farkling it out to better suit me
Side panels from Ebay to match the look and lines of the '22-25 bikes
Mosko Moto Aux Pod 5L bags (40% off on Black Friday!) for tubes, tools, first aid, etc. My trusty old 10L Kriega bag on the back with tow strap, recovery rope, and extra space to stash food, layers, etc.
Navigation: I picked up a refurbished Samsung Active 3 tablet, with 2yr warranty, on Amazon for about $150 OTD. Added the Rade Garage rally screen + navigation bar mount, to create more space for the tablet. Tablet mounted in Hondo Garage Big Squeeze mount.
Running DMD navigation software. Really, really liking this change from Gaia
Added factory heated drips and a bar mounted USB charging port. Has both “old” USB and USB-C ports, and the C port can also used to charge the bike. All wired to switched power. Added MM bar bag, for mulitools, snack, misc, iPhone on charger hotspotted to tablet
Finally, added Twin Air foam filter and Rottweiler Power Plate to improve air filtering of the bike.
Shipping soon: Nomad-Moto soft roll top pannier system, with adjustable base.. Will post pics when I have it mounted up.
Final bits in my RMATV cart: new chain, rear sprocket, rear brake pads, Tusk 2Track rear tire
Edit: I’m starting a petition to reserve a special place in hell for the engineering team responsible for the 790/890 headlight assembly. Space will be next to the team responsible for the airbox.
Hell yeah. Solid!
Very nice!
Sweet!
This post convinced me to pull the trigger on the Power Plate. And I will gladly sign that petition! ![]()
If you pop for heated grips, or anything that requires you to tap into ACC2 or 1 in the headlight…ping me first.
The Power Plate is straightforward install.
Anything to put off Leg Day…is it spring yet?
Mounted up new Nomad-Moto luggage system. Notes:
Purchased a bundle deal during Black Friday of adjustable base + 2 x 20L panniers + 40L duffel. The panniers strap very securely to the base. Base includes integrated straps to secure the duffel, and other mounting points to secure other bags / gear to the base.
The owner is a bit of a character, very passionate about his brand and eager to give good customer service. He offered, unprompted, to throw in a tank bag due to the length of time it took for US orders to be shipped from their new UT warehouse. Tankbag is small, simple, waterproof. If I like it I’ll keep it on the bike and move the Mosko Gnat bar bag to the 500.
Note to self: buy matching orange straps…
I may run an empty Kriega 10L bag I’ve had for years on the luggage rack, for layers, snacks, etc.
Left MM bag: tow strap, tools, air compressor, FAK
Left pannier: camping “kitchen,” food, clothes
Right MM bag: tube, levers, flat kit (bead buddy, valve snake, patches), Z-Drag
Right pannier: camp chair, “sleep system” (sleeping bag pad, camping pillow, bag liner, headlight).
Duffel: tent, poles, sleeping bag
Weather permitting, I ride this down to our 2nd class in the ADV 101 series, where I’ll discuss bike setup, gear, camping stuff, etc.
Honestly… too many parts to even list. If it made a sound though.. it would sound like a vacuum when opening your wallet.
This was my winter project. Taco-sauce’d my 2018
Still some odds and ends I’ll keep doing until Moab,. Or a few changes I ultimately wasn’t as happy with (molecule handguards on the way), but she’s ready now.
McGuckins has store-branded Orange Voile straps in stock. They’re also maybe the only thing at McGuckins that is the same price as online or other retailers.
