Oh…I now have orange Titan straps from Amazon. Can’t go into Boulder as my BoCo green card has expired and they’d apprehend me at the border.
Nice lookin’ whip! It’s hard to imagine a better bike for what we do than the 500/501; such a great platform for adventureish riding.
Nice bike. Which bags are those?
Mosko R40
Got my True North Moto turn signal kit installed. Very low profile (but bright) front signals and integrated rear brake light and turn signals.
Factory Connection suspension en route. Ordered the DMD2 as well. Fin.
What’s the over/under I put it back together without having some spare bolts laying around?
I took my boingers down to Bryan at fullfactoryoffroad.com and had him rebuild and install fat boy springs. I normally do everything myself but I’ve never rebuilt a shock and didn’t feel like starting now. Got it back this afternoon, installed and set sag. Looking forward to a warm Sunday tomorrow to go play with clickers.
New BDCW plate for the Kove 450. I have to be honest here- the fitment kinda sucks. I had to push like hell on it towards the rear to get the screws to line up. The reveal around the front tanks is pretty different on the left and right side. It’s on there now but God forbid I need to drop the plate for a trailside repair. I’d probably have to finish the ride with it strapped to the tail. Hopefully it only comes off for oil changes at home. The previous plate was thin carbon fiber, which only really protects the engine if you case the bike on a stack of throw pillows or a lightly compacted snowman.
Also a new 1-less-tooth front sprocket improved the slow speed performance in the medium enduro kinda riding. It still has a really tall 1st gear. I also finally balanced the wheels at 2000 miles. I feel dumb for not doing it sooner. Both wheels have the worlds heaviest rim lock, and good lord the bike felt awful at 60mph+ on pavement. Now it is smooth at any speed.
What bag is that on the back?
Also, tomorrow is garbage day. Get those cans out
That is my $15 Walmart Ozark Trail dry bag, with the shoulder straps cut off. I originally bought two to use them as side bags. It was a cheap experiment. Ozark Trail Spring River Waterproof Roll Top Kayak Backpack, Red - Walmart.com Robot or human?
Ktech suspension upgrade courtesy of Bryan from full factory off-road.
Tusk 2 track rear tire (now I need to do the front)
Some new Nelson rigg luggage with the quick detach plates. Sure it’s not the lightest option but it’s damn convenient commuting to and from the office.
I am forever copying @309 and referring to all suspension as boingers from now on. My 890 got some serious work the last couple weeks. Sent the boingers off to be built, Rottweiler intake, decat, muffler, and new fuel mapping. All this was planned for the winter but breaking my wrist meant my wife, @MelanieK, did pretty much all the work. I can’t ride yet so haven’t tested it but it sure sounds good.
Geez, dude.
I was there with Scott as his Emotional Support Dawg when he opened up the engine to check the valves and inspect the cams. Pretty straightforward process but not made for male adult fingers.
New cam OK, but what does one do about that scored cam journal?
New fuel line and filter - XR400; Wolfman E-Base and medium Rolie bag. Base zip tied on.
Opened up the CRF250x and found a short. Re-wired, tightened / torqued all bolts. Adjusted chain.
Beta 300 - flushed clutch.
790:
- Mounted Tusk 2Track rear
- New Tusk GOLD chain
- Swapped 16t front for 15t
- New rear brake pads
- Figured out I could stash front and rear tubes behind front fairings.
Tomorrow doing oil changes on 500, 790, new plastics and graphics on 500.
Then I should be all ready for Moab ![]()
Does the cam tower have oil passages that supply the journals? Only the journals are scored, right? The lobes and finger followers all looked good? Does not look like a cam hardening issue, looks more like oil contamination. How did your oil filters look?
Does the manual have a clearance dimension for the journals? Those lateral marks across the head make me think the clearance might be tight. The radial marks make sense, but the lateral marks are odd. There are no axial forces on the cam. The wear marks on the horizontal surface are strange too.
