August Shop Ride: NorCO

Yesterday was our first official “shop ride” as a club, with probably over 40 people joining us for coffee and donuts at Elite.

Special thanks to those of you who weren’t riding, who still showed to support the club and our new relationship with Elite. The owner, Steve, was blown away by the support and enthusiasm from the members.

We began the ride by taking the scenic route to Masonvile, via Carter Lake. At Masonville we split the ride in to A and B groups, with @MotoiKandi leading about 9-10 A-riders and me leading the balance of about 18-20 Killer B’s.

The A-route included Old Flowers before continuing on to Rustic. I heard tales of “bikes everywhere,” so we’d all like to see some pics and videos of the shenanigans

The B’s took Dirty Buckhorn over Pingree Pass, to Poudre Canyon, to Rustic. Everything went smoothly, with the exception of my wife, Kandi, deciding to ride off the road for no apparent reason. But we dusted her off, got the Mighty 310 Sewing Machine back on the road and continued on.

Both groups came back together in Rustic within about 5 minutes of each other :+1:, creating quite a scene of adventure bikes. After the obligatory soft serve ice cream we all carried on up the hill to Redfeather and Potbelly. More socializing before everyone went their separate ways. We went home via the planned route back to Rustic, then Poudre to Stove Prairie to Masonville.

Thanks again to everyone who joined us and made our first club shop ride a great success!

Please post up your ride repors, pics and videos!

Rich Strauss translator:

“The bomb craters are pretty legit” = “The bomb craters are big enough to swallow a Volkswagen and most of you will not make it.”

The carnage:

After coming back to lift about 3 different bikes: “I was not told there would be hiking…”

But that’s why it’s called…

Sad I missed the very first ride but I was out riding rivers in rafts with my son’s Scout troop, but definitely excited for the next one.

Nice! You know it a good time when you have bikes pointed both up and down the hill :+1:

Not sure if any Elite moto folks are on, but huge thanks guys. Really looking forward to this relationship and community events. Thanks to Rich and Gino too. Maybe we get Elite a giant BCADV banner for their shop next

Great idea!

It’s so rad to see this community coming together week by week having fun, helping each other out, and for me, learning more about everyone outside of the moto context. Love it!

The B ride yesterday was as much of an Eating Tour as it was a moto ride, which is sometimes perfectly fine by me. The day started with donuts and coffee (so I hear) courtesy of Elite Motorsports, and then there was soft serve ice cream in Rustic, and then a snack at Pot Belly before hitting Red Feather for gas (thanks Rich!). For maybe the first time on an all-day ride, I wasn’t starving when I got home. The ride was a mellow cruise through nice dirt roads, some paved twisties, and one pass. It’s always wild to ride through the tree skeletons and devastation of a wildfire a few years ago, and seeing life persevere and change the way everything looks and feels.

Here’s a little video of the lineup yesterday at Masonville. (I stuck it on a private Youtube account because Discourse limits our file sizes on photo/video uploads.) What a collection of awesome motos, and the addition of the squeaking of my Alpinestars Tech7s…

We had one luckily small mishap on the day when Rich’s Kandi (not @MotoiKandi) decided to head cross country, downhill on a shelf road switchback. Given the amount of bouncing and thrashing through deadfall and deadfall cut stumps, I was so thankful to see her come to rest with her bike under a tree. This could have been so much worse. We were able to get four folks to pull her bike backward and turned, and then Rich rode it back up to the road. My camera didn’t pick up the get off, but you can see the aftermath below. At this point I took my helmet off and ear plugs out at this point in case I needed to perform a medical assessment, but fortunately it wasn’t needed. Otherwise, here are a few more pics from the day. Thanks again for showing up, including all of you who just came to hang out before the ride!

Thank you so much for putting this together. It was a fun ride, unfortunately I had to head home after the pass portion, no matter, it felt great to finally get out for a ride after a too long ride hiatus for me. Looking forward to other rides in the future.

I love how, in that first video, you managed to capture perfectly the squeak of your boots!
