Saturday, April 25: BoCo Intro Trail Ride - A, B, C Riders

Great work on the routes, Rich! I know that takes effort to try and time them correctly, etc.

Much appreciated!

Thx Bill. That said, I made no effort to “time” everyone coming together at Toss. I know that once we are wheels up, all time expectations or estimates are out the window

ATTN ALL: READ THIS.

Given that we have nearly 40 reservations on this ride (holy shit), a few things are IMPORTANT:

  1. Come with the GPX tracks already set up on your device, and know how they work.

  2. Come with your radio programmed, on, and tested on the right channel/frequency.

With a group like this, there’s no way we can all ride together beyond a regroup at Gold Hill, and then again at the beginning of Switzerland Trail. Beyond that, things are going to massively spread out.

Rich and I are going to encourage everyone to find a small group to ride with and take care of each other. This usually happens naturally. This is all a direct extension of everything covered in Rich’s classes this winter.

The most important thing on our rides is: Be cool and courteous. You are officially an ambassador of BCADV when you’re on one of our rides, and we are here to build community, and leave a positive impression everywhere we go. Give bicycles and hikers the right of way, and a huge berth. Have patience with the Texas wheelchair drivers on Switzerland even though it’s hard. Spread nothing but joy and stoke. Do not ride like an asshole, ever. We have nothing to prove, beyond other people can interact with BCADV riders and know it’s going to be positive.

Lastly, are there any folks in the group planning to do the C ride? Please speak up, as I want to plan accordingly.

See you Saturday.

Hey — I’m planning to join the ride on Saturday.

This will be my first organized group ride, so I was originally planning to stick with the C group to keep things comfortable. I’ve ridden the Switzerland Trail before though, so I could also move up to B if it helps balance the groups and there aren’t many C riders.

Either way, I’m looking forward to it and happy to ride wherever I fit best. See you all Saturday.

If you’ve done Switz you’re fine on the B ride

I will be with my son, who is a newbie; we will be doing C on Saturday.

Bummed don’t think I can make it, assuming to Rich’s point y’all will be doing another open house ride. Only have gotten out to that one little ride back in April with you guys.

OK, Thanks for the heads up. If there’s not an easy and clear line on Saturday, we will flip it at that drift. No point in taking a group of big bikes through that just to turn around at the top.

or we can draft a couple young guys on small bikes to break trail for us :+1:

Did you make it up to Elk Park?

Not quite to elk park. Steven broke through the first drift but we turned back at the second drift that looked impassable.

Steven is a quitter, got it.

No worries, I am too. We’ll go up until we can’t then flip it

Everyone,

I found a small error in the .GPX files and have uploaded v2 files to the original post. Specifically, I didn’t properly route the transition from Gold Hill Rd to Switzerland Trail.

Please download the v2 files in the original post and load those on your device. If you miss this note, don’t worry, you’ll be fine with the original .gpx files. I’ll explain in the ride brief.

Sorry, using a new tool for planning routes and I’m slowly moving up the learning curve.

Great ride and had a couple buddies come along too!

Big thanks to @Rich_Strauss for the skills class the week before. I felt super confident on the trails and might try an A ride next time. Thanks for building the tracks too!

And thanks to @mulebarn for the salute as we crossed on Tolland/Portal road :joy:

Had fun yesterday! Thanks Rich for putting this first big one of the season together, and everyone for making my NINTH kidney-versary awesome. Here’s a photo of PJ (my donor), Dr. John Barry (my transplant surgeon), and me at the 2-year anniversary in 2019. Without those two amazing humans, none of this would exist.

Also, I’ll point out that we filled every seat at Toss, except for the 4-top in the corner. Love it. All hail supporting local businesses!
