I have a street-legal motorcycle. Do I need a Utah non-resident OHV permit?
If your street-legal motorcycle is registered and plated in your home state, then you do not need to purchase a Utah non-resident OHV permit. If a machine is plated and follows all of Utah’s street-legal requirements, then it is no longer considered an off-highway vehicle and is technically considered a “passenger vehicle” or, in this case, a street-legal motorcycle.
Also, if getting it CO registered is not possible.. or too painful.. you can do a non-resident registration in South Dakota. But it sounds like it’s fairly straight forward to get it CO legal.
This is where a plated dirt bike versus a street legal adventure bike could vary. I typically buy an UT OHV permit for my dirt bike even though its plated, because I don’t believe it completely meets the Utah plated requirements. However, I don’t bother getting a permit for my street legal adventure bike as described above, and on the DNR sight, its not required.
Until now I’d been out for this as we were planning a family spring break trip to NYC. That trip has been postponed and now we’re talking about Phoenix. Planning is still fluid but looking a lot like I’ll be driving out to Phoenix with a bike. I’ll ride on the way there, meet the fam and do some riding in Phoenix and then meet up with the BCADV crew on the way back. Shaping up to be an epic week.
That would mean big bike and truck camping for me. If anyone has room to bring my dirt bike out I could toss in some gas money…
Officially in. I will arrive in Moab on the 18th and stay until the 23rd. I’ll also be riding somewhere in the area on 3/14 if anyone is around there then.
Offer for gas money to anyone who can bring my dirt bike out from Boulder stands.
I’m planning to join y’all on my T7 - just trying to work out logistics, probably going to rent a trailer and drive my truck out (I usually just ride + camp off the bike but worried about the weather coming from Denver).
Likely some small pockets of carpooling, but independent drive outs. For those that haven’t been, it’s a simple drive. I70 and turn left at Moab. But I believe Rich is scouting ahead for a group area.
There’s no need for us to track who’s coming, and when they’re getting there.
I will drive out early Wednesday morning, drop the 500, scout quickly for a group campsite, then publish that here. I then plan to ride most of the day on Thursday, and will offer a sand riding class late Thursday afternoon if there’s interest in that.
Ok, definitely attending this event and bringing my son Matt. I’m bringing my 5th wheel Toy Hauler with two big bikes and two small bikes, so unfortunately I don’t have extra space to haul any extra bikes.
Looking forward to this ride!
Hopefully the group camping spot is big camper friendly.
I’m still planning to get out there on Wednesday to scout on the 500, find a camping area, and publish that to the group. Looks like a couple others may be joining me for the Wed recce.
Will then do a full day of riding on Thursday, probably pre-running what I have in mind for the “Rich’s Wild Ride” on Sunday.
I’ve made GPS tracks for Friday (White Rim) and Saturday (Onion Creek / Castle Valley / Kokopelli). Need to make Friday and Sunday B-Ride tracks. Will publish all to the first post in this thread when that’s complete.
